Slowpitch softball player Jordan Gates is headed to Kansas and Independence Community College next fall where she will start her collegiate career and pursue a degree to teach.
“My plan after graduation is go to Independence Community College and play softball and start on my teaching career, then transfer to Pitt state to get my Special Education teaching degree and to play more softball,” said Gates.
A 14-year veteran of the sport, Gates said she has enjoyed her time at Fairland High School and the support her and her teammates receive means a lot.
“It means a lot to that I have a community who supports me. The community has really impacted my life by all of the support they give and how much they care for others,” said Gates. “The best thing about being a Fairland High School athlete is they actually believe in their player and give them so much support. It has built me to become a leader to the younger kids.”
Also a member of STUCO and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Gates said what she has loved the most is the opportunity to represent a school that, “has a really great support system when it comes to sports.”
But her teammates will always hold a special place in her heart.
“What I love the most about my team and teammates we are one big family and have a bond that no one could break. They always have a smile on their faces. They all have a big heart and I could not ask for a better team,” said Gates.
Gates also said her favorite subject in school is Anatomy and Physiology, and her favorite teacher is Jennifer Johnson.
