Vinita’s McKinzie McAffrey – FFA Spotlight Presented by Oklahoma AgCredit Vinita
- Updated: January 13, 2020
McKinzie McAffrey has spent the last three years serving in various roles for the Vinita FFA, and now she’s president of the organization.
McAffrey said some of her responsibilities include conducting meetings and doing her best to keep everything in order.
“I help with a lot of events,” McAffrey said. “Overall, I pretty much provide leadership to help others as well as myself. We do a lot of things for the community, because that provides us with responsibility. FFA also gives you some qualities that are hard to find anywhere else; things like public speaking. I was not a public speaker before I was in FFA, and once I joined I found that I really love doing that.”
In addition to serving as the FFA president, McAffrey participates in showing swine and judging livestock competitions.
“I’m also involved in the forestry and catering teams,” she said. “FFA teaches all of us so many things that we wouldn’t learn anywhere else.”
As this month’s FFA Spotlight, McAffrey wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for others who may be on the fence about joining her organization.
“I would say the FFA is just something you need to be a part of in order to experience,” McAffrey said. “It’s not just about plows and cows and sows. It’s about family building relationships and building your communication skills as well. It teaches you how to get out there and reach new people, and then how to interact with those people. It really gives you an experience that will be hard to find anywhere else.”
