Salina’s Caiden Hooker – Mayes County Athlete of the Month Presented by Red Crown Credit Union
- Updated: January 13, 2020
Caiden Hooker, Mayes County Athlete of the Month, has athletics in his blood.
“My dad played college baseball, so baseball runs in my family,” Hooker said. “I’ve always been raised to play hard and give 100% every second I’m out there. I’d say in basketball, I try to model my play after Russell Westbrook because of his love for the game and the way he works hard every minute he’s out there. In baseball it’s Derek Jeter because of the love he has for the game.”
Hooker plays the 4 for the Wildcats, and said some goals for him this year on the hardwood include being the best leader for his team that he can be.
“I want to set a good example because my team is young this year,” the senior said. “I want to get them prepared for the high school level. Some team goals we have are to work hard and play together. I want us to play at the level we’re capable of playing every single night. If we do that, we should be able to go pretty far.”
Future plans for Hooker include playing college athletics, although he’s still undecided as to which sport. He also wants to major in psychology and criminal justice, and one day join the ranks of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“I feel honored and humbled to be the Athlete of the Month,” Hooker said. “I hope they chose me because they see my passion and the example I’m trying to set for the underclassmen I’m playing with this year.”
