Practice is an integral part of being a successful athlete. But Verdigris’ Megan Turner says that not focusing on one sport has also been key to her success. “Putting in the extra work outside of team practices has been important,” she said. “Going to a smaller school has allowed me to continue playing multiple sports, which has helped me become a well-rounded athlete.”
Turner, who will be a senior in the upcoming school year, is a member of the Lady Cardinals’ softball, soccer, and basketball teams.
There have been different people that have impacted Megan’s life throughout the years, but there are two that stand out. “One of my biggest role models is my dad,” she said. “He has coached me through my entire softball career. The other would be coach Keith because he demands perfection, which has made me the leader I am today.”
While there have been many good moments during her athletic career, Turner says that there is one that is special because of what she had to overcome. “I received the Defensive Player of the Year award after coming back from elbow surgery two months prior to the season.”
Megan says that she would not be where she is today without great people surrounding her. “I am thankful for all of my teammates over the years who have pushed me to be the player I am today.”
