Locust Grove’s Madison Smith – Northeast Tech Athlete of the Month
- Updated: November 8, 2019
By Ryan Stone
The Northeast Tech Student of the Month is Madison Smith, a junior at Locust Grove High School. Smith plays third base for the fastpitch team and is proud of the work she put in to get better this season. “I was disappointed in the end because we didn’t make it to state, but overall I feel like I improved from last year so I was happy with that,” said Smith. “My hitting and fielding both improved from last year and I think I became a better leader this year as well.”
Smith also plays point guard on the Locust Grove basketball team and has big hopes for this season. “Our expectations are to go to state in basketball and for us, the keys will be communication and effort this season,” said Smith.
Leadership is a focal point for Smith this season as well. “Leadership has also been a big improvement for me in basketball because I know I need to lead the underclassmen and set a good example for them,” said Smith.
Smith is enrolled in the Northeast Tech Health Careers program and is currently learning about muscles and nerves in the body. She has enjoyed the program so far. “I’ve really learned a lot,” said Smith. “It’s really been helpful and a lot of fun so far.”
Smith chose the Health Careers program because she wants to be a Licensed Practical Nurse. Smith likes the idea of being a nurse because she wants to help people in need.
Smith is a standout student as well with a 4.0 GPA and she is involved in the Spanish Club at Locust Grove.
