Miami’s Makayla Catt – Character Counts Presented by Welch State Bank

By Ember McElrath

Makayla Catt is a senior cheerleader at Miami High School. She started her cheerleading career in the seventh grade. Before starting her cheerleading journey Catt trained in tumbling and gymnastics at the towns local gym, Flip Out, where her coach encouraged her to try something new. So that is when she decided to take a leap of faith and try out for her local cheer team. Fast forward a few years and she is now entering her final year of highschool as a Miami Wardog cheerleader.

Makayla is a highly involved student and athlete, keeping herself busy with her high school’s student council, National Honor Society, cheerleading squad, and she is also a dual sport athlete as a member of the tennis team. With Catt being involved in so much she has gotten close to not only all of her teammates but her school as well.

“I love how close me and my teammates have gotten and how well we work together.”

Catt is extremely proud to be a Miami High School student because of all of the support she receives from her high school and community.

“I love how supportive our school is,” Catt states.

Makayla is looking forward to spending this last year of high school with her friends while making memories to last a lifetime. Catt’s family is a great support system for her. She has a younger brother in the eighth grade and a younger sister in the second grade. Her mother is a cosmetologist and her father works for Good Shepard Hospice out of Tulsa.

After graduation Makayla would like to continue cheering in college, where she also plans to pursue a career in Speech Pathology. She has not yet decided on which college she plans to attend, but is keeping her options open.
