OFFENSE
The Pirates look to build on the success of last season, when they went 8-3 and lost in the first round of the state playoffs. Although they graduated a great group of seniors that led the way, they are working to fill those leadership roles. This offense will use a high-tempo attack that utilizes the abilities of returning quarterback Caden Bendabout (5-11, 185, Sr.) and running back Kyle Panther (5-8, 180, Sr.). The pass-happy offense of new head coach Cameron Conder will look to spread the ball around to wide receivers Jace Davis (5-8, 165, So.), Jordan Dempsey (6-0, 170, Jr.) and Austin Huffman (5-10, 160, Jr.) as much as possible. Protecting Bendabout and anchoring the offensive line will be Hector Trujillo (6-3, 325, Sr.).
DEFENSE
The defense will be an attacking 3-4 style, bringing pressure from a variety of looks. Pressure will be the name of the game in Locust Grove this season. A strong linebacker crew will be a huge asset to the Pirates’ defensive scheme. Cole Holman (6-1, 215, Jr.), Henry Sartan (5-11, 195, Sr.), and Danny Stone (6-0, 185, Jr.) will make up the bulk of this group. Further behind the line, Kai Parker (6-0, 185, Jr.) will contribute as a defensive back. Tuxie Peoples (6-1, 255, Sr.) will shore up the defensive line, while Colton Bell (6-1, 200, Sr.) is utilized at defensive end. Coach Conder has a clear game plan for developing this team. “All good programs develop the body,” Conder said. “The great programs develop the mind as well. There are 18 inches between your heart and your mind; we will invest in the strength and toughness of that 18 inches as heavily as we invest in every other part of the athlete’s body. The Pirates will have big hearts and tough minds.”
