OFFENSE
Fairland returns five starters to the offensive unit this season under head coach Kent Marshall. The Owls have a good nucleus of players to build around. Charles Reed (5-8, 185, Sr.) had 1,012 yards rushing last season and with most of the offensive line intact, he could see similar numbers in 2019. Braxton Jones (5-8, 155, So.) passed for 743 yards and rushed for 347 as a freshman last year. The line features Brion Padberg (6-4, 190, Jr.) and Maison Rentfrow (5-11, 200, Jr.). Both guys are aggressive and can use their quickness to get to next-level bocks. Andrew Barker (6-2, 230, Jr.) will start at tight end giving Jones a big target in the passing game.
DEFENSE
James Handrich (5-11, 195, Sr.) had 207 tackles last season at linebacker and returns to match those number in 2019. Ahkay Steers (5-11, 165, Sr.) is another linebacker with big numbers. Steers finished the season with 96 tackles on the year. Luke Jackson (6-0, 180, Sr.) grabbed two interceptions last year with 37 tackles from his corner position. Reed will play linebacker where he had 46 tackles a year ago and Jones will slide to the defensive side and play in the secondary. “We will be very young and short on depth,” Marshall said. “Our kids have worked hard to prepare themselves for success. If we can stay healthy we will create some problems for the district.”
