OFFENSE
It’s a four-way race for the starting role at quarterback as head coach Steve Moss looks to fill an opening over the summer. Eric Cunningham, Juan Padron, Danny Salinas and Oscar Gutierrez are all competing to be the new signal caller after Hayden Moss graduated. Cunningham and Padron may have the upper hand, but Moss is looking for the guy who is willing to work the hardest in the summer and come in ready to take the job once practice begins. Caden Pickard (5-10, 200, Sr.) is expected to help the team at running back. Last season he also served in the tight end spot, making 21 receptions for 333 yards. Seth Hailey (So.) rushed for 105 yards on 17 carries as a freshman and figures into the scheme as well. Caleb Eulitt (5-8, 150, Sr.) may start on both sides of the ball this season pulling double duty at corner on defense. Look for Ty Houston (Sr.), Kolby Dean (Jr.) and Gage Smith (So.) on the offensive line.
DEFENSE
Eulitt and Gutierrez should see time in the secondary. Last season Eulitt had 24 tackles and an interception. Several offensive linemen will move to the defensive side of the ball and shore up the D-line. Linebackers Kobe Forbis (So.), Danny Salinas (Sr.) and Mateo Moreno (5-10, 200, Sr.) are expected to have a solid season. Also look for Hunter Bissell (6-1, 185, Jr.) and Salvador Martinez (Sr.) to see time on defense. Martinez will also serve as the team’s kicker. Last season he posted a 75 percent touchback rate. Junior Ramirez (5-9, 160, Jr.) and Trysten Bundy (5-11, 180, Jr.) are two more players Moss is looking forward to getting reps this season. “We have some hard-nosed kids that will work hard and get after the football,” Moss said. “We will rally to the football defensively and fight for every inch offensively. These young men are hungry to prove what they can do themselves after graduating 14 seniors.”
