OFFENSE
The Colcord Hornets are excited to get back on the field this fall and head coach Austin Martin is right there with them. “Excited to see young guys step up and see the seniors and big junior class lead the way,” Martin said. The Hornets have seven starters back in a multiple-formation spread offense. Blake Gonzales (5-6, 155, Sr.) shifts from running back, where he accumulated an impressive 140 carries for 1,041 yards and 17 touchdowns, to quarterback. In the wide receiver slots, look for a mix of experience and fresh talent in Dylan Davis (5-11, 150, Jr.) and Eyan Williams (6-3, 175, Fr.). A.J. Nichols (5-9, 250, Jr.) will anchor the O-line at the center, alongside strong guard George Phillips (5-11, 190, Jr.) and strong tackle Abram Still (6-2, 290, Jr.).
DEFENSE
The Colcord defense will have plenty of speed on the field this year. The defense also returns seven starters. Linebacker Jaden Chandler (5-7, 185, Sr.) is a key defensive player. Last year he put in work and racked up 45 tackles, five fumble recoveries, four sacks, two forced fumbles, one interception and one touchdown. Fellow linebackers Hayden Duncan (5-11, 185, Jr.) and Trent Lynch (6-1, 175, Jr.) are assets as well. Together they accumulated 54 tackles, two forced fumbles and two sacks last year. Watch for Aidan Parker (5-8, 175, Jr.) backing the line on the outside. Parker ended up with 58 tackles last year, plus two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Tyler Duncan (6-1, 220, Sr.) will be a contributor at tight end, looking to top his 25 tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery. At safety, Stormy Odle (5-7, 155, So.) will make a mark on the field like he did his freshman year, when he contributed 48 tackles and one interception.
