Pawhuska junior Matt Miles picked up the golf clubs for the first time this year and was pleasantly surprised to find that he wasn’t half bad.
“This is actually my first year ever playing golf,” he said. “I just thought I’d try it and go out and have fun, but I ended up being pretty good after practicing for a couple weeks and it just became really enjoyable and fun!”
Along with enjoying the sport itself, Miles had lots of fun this season working with his teammates. Their season turned out even better than they initially thought, and that moment is one Miles says stands out.
“This season was so fun; my teammates and I have so many great memories to look back on!” he said. “At the beginning of the season we all probably didn’t think we would even make it to regionals and then we squeezed into state. The moment we knew we made it was definitely a standout moment!”
Miles says that the Pawhuska community is a huge part of why he loves competing for his high school.
“What I like most about competing for my school is definitely the support behind me,” he said. “Pawhuska has so many supporters for every sport and it’s an honor to be a Huskie and have everyone cheering for you!”
Miles is a determined individual who works hard to reach his goals.
“I definitely have goals set for my future, and my goals I’ve set motivate me to be the best me in and out of athletics,” he said. “I’m very determined to reach my goals and will work hard in and out of school and athletics.”
Miles looks up to his mother as a role model.
“She motivates me in everything I do, and is always there for me,” he said. “And she never lets me down and does absolutely everything she can for me and my brother and sister!”
Miles also loves playing basketball for the Huskies, along with his newfound love of golf. He will be a senior in the fall and can’t wait to see what his final season at Pawhuska High has in store for both sports.
