Pryor’s Jacob Wood – Northeast Tech Athlete of the Month
- Updated: February 22, 2019
Pryor High School student-athlete Jacob Wood plays football, baseball, and has wrestled for four years as well. He began wrestling after watching his friends compete and realizing he wanted to give it a try. Now, he can say that his teammates make up one of his favorite parts about competing in the sport.
“My favorite thing about competing for my high school is working hard with teammates and our coaches pushing us to do our best,” he said.
Outside of his high school, Wood is enrolled in the Electrical Technology program at Northeast Tech. With the encouragement of some friends and his father, he is pursuing his interests.
“What made me decide on taking this program was talking to friends who have previously been enrolled in that program, and with my Dad being an Electrical Contractor, influencing me to take the program,” he said.
The thing that Wood enjoys most about his program at Northeast Tech is, in his words, “its uniqueness to be able to learn stuff not available to me at the high school.”
He also feels that Northeast Tech is preparing him for life after graduation by introducing him to new people and letting him hone his skills.
“I feel like Northeast Tech has been preparing me amazingly for post-grad life because I’ve been interacting with the new people and it has brought many more opportunities available to me in the future along with the skills I may not ever learn,” he said.
After high school, Wood plans to join the family business, working for his father’s electrical business and furthering the company he has built.
