Cole Kennedy – Pryor High School

Pryor High School wrestler Cole Kennedy is the winner of the Northeast Area Mr. Wrestling poll and when you talk to him, it’s easy to see why people like this varsity wrestler.

The senior is wrestling at a couple of weights this season and has performed well in both.

“I wrestle at 120 and 126-pounds. This season has been excellent in spite of working through a few injuries,” said Kennedy.

Being a part of the Pryor wrestling team means you are under the leadership of head coach Shae Jefferson. Coach Jefferson is big on the team concept, even in a sport that is mostly about the individual and their performance on the mat.

“Our team has a close bond with each other sharing the same passion and holding each other accountable,” said Kennedy.

The community of Pryor loves supporting all of their high school athletes and wrestling is no different according to Kennedy.

“The community of Pryor is amazing. We have lots of fans who travel with our team everywhere we go. We are blessed with such a supportive community.”

Kennedy said his father has been a big influence on him, on and off the mat.

“My biggest influence in life is my dad. He has supported me in everything I have done and has always taught me to do the right things.”

Regionals are rapidly approaching and Kennedy is looking forward to getting back to the state tournament. Last season, Kennedy qualified for state at 106-pounds.

After he graduates from Pryor High School, Kennedy has plans to continue his education at the next level.

“I plan on going to college to study in the medical field,” said Kennedy.
