Morgan Connell is a varsity basketball player at Commerce High School under head coach Brooke Hunter. Connell started playing basketball in the third grade, but it wasn’t the only sport her parents got her involved in.

“I was in third grade when I started playing. I play softball, I’m the 1st baseman/center fielder and the leadoff batter. I ran track as a sophomore and qualified for the state track meet in the 200 m dash (5th) and long jump (4th),” said Connell.

Coach Hunter said of Connell, “Morgan is one of the leaders of our young team and had been our consistent scorer throughout the season! I’m so proud of how she’s grown up on and off the court since I met her this summer!”

Connell has a passion for the sports she plays and her teammates.

“This year we have played with a lot of passion. My team works extremely hard and is motivated to get better. We faced a lot of adversity in the beginning of the season but have overcame the obstacles as a family,” said Connell. “Currently we are 10-8, and continue to do little things to get better. As a team we set a goal to get to double digit wins. We’ve reached that goal, but we aren’t satisfied yet.”

Connell carries a 4.0 GPA and said her academics are very important. She is a member of the FCCLA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council class offices and is a member of National Honor Society.

“I plan on playing softball in college, and majoring in pre-med to become a plastic surgeon,” said Connell.

Playing three sports, keeping up a 4.0 GPA and being involved in many clubs at school takes a lot of time. Connell depends on her mother for support and encouragement as well as her coach.

“My mom is my biggest supporter and best friend. On the court, my biggest influence is my coach. She’s new this year but has made such an impact on my team and in my heart. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to play for her,” said Connell.
